Sometimes I dye two color yarns although prefer more integrated color work. When I do, the area where the two colors mix is what I call the transition. The transitions are some of my favorite parts of hand dyed yarns. They usually work up a beautifully, except when they don’t. You just never know.
Awhile back, Fran began to design a pattern for the Quatrefoil Wrap with our Sahara Silk. She got halfway through the front panel and brought it into show. The yarn made stripes and I did not like it. Sometimes stripes are fine, but not this time and not for this garment. I might have been out-voted as we discussed the pros and cons with the customers who were there, but I stuck to my guns.
I am so lucky to have such a good designer, and patient friend, to work with. Fran took home another color and the design knit up beautifully. Choosing the right yarn for the right project can be tricky.
